Experience of moving many customers tells us that every move is unique and therefore every customer will have different questions leading up to move date.
We have therefore compiled a few of the most common questions we have been asked in relation to removal companies offer all types of removal service for household removals, office removals, European removals, International removals and storage services.
Q. How much will it cost?
It's always best that a removal co-ordinator relevant to your move speaks with you about your forthcoming move to determine the cost. There are many factors such as packing, access, relevant vehicle, man power, time of the year and any unique situations that every move gives us. With this information we can easily obtain many removal quotes with from the most relevant removal companies with the idea of finding the best service, the best price in line with your removal requirements.
Q. Do you cover my area?
We cover the whole of the UK, Europe and World with a well maintained database of high quality removal and shipping companies offering full, part and return load services. And of course, we can move you anywhere in the world, in conjunction with our network of partners around the globe. Please note: all companies on our database would have been through our vetting system and have been used by us many times before, giving you complete assurance that we not only get you a great price but from a company with a complete professional approach.
Q. How much notice do you require?
We always advise customers that for standard house removals within the UK usually need around a 7-14 day booking period before move date. For European and Worldwide removals we tend to require at least 21 days notice. Ideally, a month is comfortable to make sure all is arranged. We do understand that the housing market can sometimes delay moving dates, therefore we are always very flexible with notice periods and do are upmost to book any move with the best companies at the best price despite how short a notice period. We can always offer a 'none fixed' booking date. This gives you the flexibility that the price will stay fixed for a certain period, and as we have very good business relationships with all companies we use, we should be able to hold a time slot of a few days without fully committing until you know your confirmed date of move. However with this in mind, please always try to give as much notice as possible to avoid disappointment.
Q. What size vehicles are available?
To give you an idea of what removal vehicles are available, the most popular used for most 1 or 2 bed property moves are 3.5 ton vans (Luton vehicles) which can hold approx. 700 cu.feet. Another popular vehicle generally for 3 or 4 bed property moves is a 7.5 ton vehicle which can hold approx. 1200 cu.feet. An 18 ton lorry is the third most common vehicle which can hold approx 2400 cu.feet as is idea for large 4 bed properties upwards. This vehicle is also commonly used for part load long distance moves throughout the country. Please let us know if there is access problems at either address or parking restrictions as this will allow your removal co-ordinator to find relevant removal companies with smaller vehicles which may suit better instead of 1 large vehicle. This will only be considered if it's relevant to your move and suitable to your circumstances.
Q. How do I arrange parking bay suspension?
It is usually the local council who deal with this matter. Generally you will need to complete a parking suspension form which can be e-mailed or posted to you. If you prefer, your removal co-ordinator can organise this upon booking you removal service. We deal with local government offices for this reason all the time for customers, therefore we would be happy to help if you don't have the time.
Q. Do you dismantle and re-assemble my bed, wardrobe etc?
Unless this was agreed at the enquiry stage, then all items needing dismantling are expected to be dismantled and ready to move prior to the removal companies arrival. If agreed at the enquiry stage the removal company appointed to the move will carry out dismantling and re-assembling to the best of their ability. It is essential that we know what is required at the enquiry stage to allow for the necessary resources and equipment to be provided. Please note at the enquiry stage, some removal companies may charge extra for this service.
Q. Do I need to unpack my chest of drawers?
Providing the unit is sturdy enough then light items such as clothing, bedding etc. can be left in. Please remove any books, magazines, breakable items etc. Self assembly furniture does not respond well to moving so this type of furniture must only be moved while completely empty.
Q. What should I do with my gas cylinders or flammable liquids?
Gas cylinders cannot be transported on any standard removal vehicles. Flammable liquids, however contained, must not be submitted for removal either. These items are not covered under a removal company's insurance policy; therefore other arrangements must be made. Equipment such as garden mowers, chainsaws and motor bikes should be drained of all liquids beforehand.
Q. Will you empty my loft?
Unless the loft has a fitted staircase, is boarded out and lit, removal company insurance policies will not cover removal staff for this service. Please ensure your loft is empty prior to our arrival. This can be organised prior to booking at the enquiry stage, where the insurance policy of the removal company relevant will need to adjust the terms and conditions to reflect this service. Please note this will also increase the price a little. Please speak with a removal co-ordinator for further information.
Q. Does my furniture get placed to my requirements?
It is always best if you have a clear idea of where you want your furniture to be placed. The removal company appointed to the move will endeavor to arrange the rooms to your liking but will not have the time to continually rearrange your furniture. Special requirements can be made at the enquiry stage.
Q. What is the size of your storage containers?
The storage containers that we can organise for you if required are 7 ft x 5 ft x 7.5 ft high, holding approximately 250 cubic feet or 7 cubic meters. These are standard removal industry size, for most moves giving good flexibility and handling when being loading and unloading at the storage facility relevant to your booking. These storage containers fit well in the removal vehicles and therefore are bought to a property for loading into at the customers address. This is beneficial in many ways as the customer will see at first hand all belongings being stored and this is minimising the removal companies work load to just loading direct into storage instead of double the work.
Q. How long can I store for?
You can store your household items for as long or short a period as necessary. Storage is often charged at weekly or monthly rates and all customers have the option of indoor/outdoor storage with 24 hours access if required. All this will need to be arranged during the enquiry stage.
Q. How can I pay for storage?
You can pay by cheque, credit or debit card. A popular option is to pay by direct debit if you are storing for a longer period of time. A deposit is sometimes required separately for storage. This will need to be arranged at the enquiry stage. The charge for storage is a separate contract to the removal service with different terms applying.
Q. Do you wrap delicate items (i.e. pictures, mirrors etc) and use blankets for large furniture like sofas?
In regards to delicate items being wrapped this must be included in the enquiry form before quotations are found as a cost will be added for this service. However for blanket wrapping large furniture is a standard service for any removal firm that offers removals. Please speak with your removal co-ordinator about this to confirm what needs wrapping and packing to make sure the quotations obtained reflect what you need.
Q. What happens if something gets damaged?
The appointed removal companies will be fully insured for any part of a move. Therefore if you find that an item has been either damaged or lost then we advise you to speak with the removal company that moved you directly and within 30 days after moving.
Q. Do you move gardens furniture (i.e. barbeque, tools, child's swing etc)?
All furniture indoors and outdoors can be moved. Please just make sure that all belongings are high lighted at the enquiry stage. If you have a gas barbeque please make sure that the gas cylinder is empty before moving. Children's outdoor toys like swings etc will ideally need dismantling prior to moving. This can be done on move day as a part of a service but again please inform your removal co-ordinator of this before obtaining quotations.
Q. How do we 'The Removal Supermarket' get paid?
We only get paid if we successfully book a removal service. We only achieve this if we get a good enough price and service for a customer. There are no additional charges to the customer above the price quoted and we get paid from the removal company's end. Therefore with no obligation to book we will always work hard to get you the best price as we get paid when you book.
Q. What items are not allowed to be stored?
Flammable items, gas bottles, plants, any opened foods such as oils, sauces etc. Please ask your removal co-ordinator if you are unsure of what can and cannot be stored.
